  • distrobox

Use any linux distribution inside your terminal. Enable both backward and forward compatibility with software and freedom to use whatever distribution you’re more comfortable with. Mirror available at: https://gitlab.com/89luca89/distrobox

  • Yes, the initial adoption is difficult as you retool your mind to think in terms of "I'll just install this in a container" rather than dnf install to the host. But the benefits of using disposable containers as a means of running software that you don't want to clutter your host with is quite amazing once you have adapted. Things like toolbx and distrobox have made this experience nearly effortless.

  • toolbox

Tool for interactive command line environments on Linux (by containers)

  • issue-tracker

Fedora Silverblue issue tracker (by fedora-silverblue)

  • Is it all perfect? No, there are still tradeoffs that have to be made. Rebooting to get OS updates is still a cost (but one that I am willing to pay), I've had to fight with Flatpak'ed Steam in the past, and there's some gaps with keeping the bootloader updated that need to be addressed.

  • agreed with that I only install drivers, distrobox, and qemu/virt manager on the immutable part and everything else is done with either flatpak, containers, or nix (it works on silverblue quite well. there is a guide for it)

  • steam-devices

List of devices Steam and SteamVR will want read/write permissions on, to help downstream distributions create udev rules/etc

  • I solved the problem by copying the 60-steam-input.rules file to the folder: /etc/udev/rules.d
