I would also suggest that you make a few characters, that will help you understand the system. You need the Basic Set Characters, a base character concept (so you won't get analysis paralysis), and I suggest using the Gurps Character Sheet as a crutch. Basically, it's a repository of almost every GURPS book that exist; you drag the thing you want from the category you've chosen into your character sheet, and it calculates stuff (including your character poitns) for you.
