While neovim (and vim for that matter) has the autoread option, the functionality to follow updates to a log file loaded in a buffer (ideally in a vsplit) in a manner similar to `tail -f` requires a fair amount. I've found some old plugins, notably TheZoq2/neovim-auto-autoread, but its not particularly feature-rich and reliant on a local python interpreter. I'm hoping there's something written in Lua and with the ability to set marks and highlights.
Might I suggest tmux? You'd get all you needed and there is a nice plugin https://github.com/christoomey/vim-tmux-navigator that lets you set up a single layer of movement keys (i use ctrl-h/j/k/l) to move around between both nvim splits and tmux splits.
