Today I found out that mpv on Android supports C Plugins. For the uninitiated, C Plugins are similar to lua scripts but they're written in C and can do things that lua can't, like make network requests. For me, I wanted to use my own mpv C Plugin from my phone.
Rust is a little more complex to get working, first I recommend using the libmpv crate from my github. Then you'll want to add Android support to Rust, with these commands
Yeah, you'd definitely need root to get this to work. In the meantime tho, I use NewPipe with mpv for YouTube
Not exactly what you are looking for but the unofficial Jellyfin client Findroid includes mpv and ExoPlayer as options. It doesn't have local file playback but stream or download to phone and play from your Jellyfin server.
