Best thing I did was install DisplayPlacer which will list all the modes that the monitor supports (or macOS thinks it supports right now) and let me make a command line alias to so that I can just reconnect the monitor and run the command until it works.

- macOS Sonoma- still no fix for the external monitor issue over USB C or HDMI Adapter on my MacBook Pro with an Intel chip. I think they are simply ignoring it.
