I found 3DreamEngine, which is made to work with Love2D. I haven't used it yet, but I'm tempted to try it out.
A Lua networking library for LÖVE games.Project mention: Example code for embedded server | reddit.com/r/love2d | 2020-12-29
I've found a library sock.lua that seems sufficient for my needs. There's an example project included that implements both server and client in the same app. I am not sure yet if this library could encounter performance issues, but it seems targeted to high performance network communications in games, so I'm hoping it will be fine.
Moddable engine reimplementation of the Japanese roguelike Elona.Project mention: Emacs is the 2D Command-line Interface | news.ycombinator.com | 2021-03-20
Well, it's not Elisp, but:
It's an engine rewrite of an old roguelike I used to play in Lua. I'm trying to experiment with making a game where the engine is similar in flexibility to Emacs.
It has an Emacs frontend, and I designed it with the zealotry of an Emacs user, meaning it has advice, hooks, interactive evaluation and runtime module hotloading. You can run anything the engine can run from a REPL (and cause all the state to become broken easily).

LÖVE2D game for github 2020 Game Off game jamProject mention: How should I load levels? | reddit.com/r/monogame | 2021-02-19
I made a jam game a few months ago where I abstracted out the levels into a JSON file. I'd imagine you could do something similar and it'd likely be more flexible than your bitmap method. In case it's useful, here is the actual example I'm talking about: https://github.com/elennick/moonshotadv/blob/main/levels/levels.json
