    My take is that by using Akka (and exchanging messages between threads) there is no need for state synchronizations through locks. Then if you can make your inter-thread queue (i.e. PIPES) lock-free (i.e. Disruptor, Conversant Disruptor, CoralQueue, etc.) you are on for some non-locking ultra-low-latency.
