VeraCrypt seems cross platform. In my repos if I search for veracrypt, zulucrypt comes up which it says it can handle various volumes.

What would happen when Veracrypto shuts down?
As others have mentioned the software you have would still function, allowing you to move it to another encrypted tool if you wished. As of right now I know of at least one open source project that can encrypt/decrypt Veracrypt volumes or disks...Zulucrypt by Francis Banyikwa. What is the best way to encrypt a file using a standard way before I send it to someone over the internet such that they can decrypt it?
zuluCrypt, considered very solid and is one of the default software of Whonix and kicksecure.

Why is cryptsetup luksFormat so much faster than setup using VeraCrypt?
I think I got the impression that it's reliant on this single person mainly from this page: https://mhogomchungu.github.io/zuluCrypt/ but it's also confirmed by the github insights https://github.com/mhogomchungu/zuluCrypt/graphs/contributors

Would you trust a repository made like this to save your secrets?
Why keep something secret on a public repo? Is that not an oxymoron?
Also, I’m terms of encryption something like age[0] makes it much easier to not shoot yourself in the foot.

Why RSA specifically? For backups, I recommend Tarsnap. But if you really don't want to pay for encrypted cloud hosting, then check out age encryption.
