:h packages in place of vim-plug, pathogen etc you can create a simple shellscript like https://github.com/airblade/voom to update/maintain plugins outside vim instead of having that functionality inside the editor where its not transparent when things aren't loaded correctly, it makes sense to install and update plugins outside vim for me.

do you use Vim or NeoVim? Why?
I don’t want magic auto-reloading in vim by installing plugins directly, I don’t trust it. I’d much rather maintain a simple plugins textfile with repos and start a shellscript like https://github.com/airblade/voom so vim’s plugins get updated in shell, just like any other software on my system.
What are some alternatives?
