For SNMP you could try thola. It's build with Go, so very fast compared to Perl or any other scripting language.

Getting vendor and system version from an IP
Check out Thola: https://github.com/inexio/thola The tool can identify network devices and also provides normalized output for interfaces, software versions etc. All over SNMP of course. So you need to have that active on the devices.
