Repost: Nightly Backup To Cold Spare
I am using xen orchestra from sources from https://github.com/Jarli01/xenorchestra_installer. Should the different servers that are linked together use the same "from sources" installer?

Xen Orchestra from source
I don't know what your problem is but I used this script and would recommend it. https://github.com/Jarli01/xenorchestra_installer

Is there a free VM solution that I can run on Ubuntu that is idiot proof?
When you do install your first VM, make it from the Ubuntu ISO you downloaded. Once Ubuntu is installed, make sure you have SSH set up in Ubuntu, then you can use the script from this link to install Xen Orchestra: (https://github.com/Jarli01/xenorchestra_installer). Easy!

My mini homelab, xenserver, iscsi dedicated network on NAS.
I've been using XCP-ng for a while and I much prefer Xen Orchestra (from sources using this script) over the Proxmox UI.

My new toy just arrived!
By the sounds of it youre not running the built from source version. I use this git repo to build Xen Orchestra from source to allow for all features to be unlocked. Super easy.

Accidentally corrupted my Proxmox cluster on Christmas Eve Eve... welcome XCP-NG!
If plan on using xcp-ng for any period of time, I suggest setting up the orchestra vm on your own and use this script to build orchestra yourself, so you can actually apply patches to your hosts from the GUI, and, more importantly, so you can see all the pretty graphs without paying for a commercial license on the official build.

Started with the turnkey installation - is it trivial to migrate to the 'sources' version
This is my weapon of choice for my homelab setup: https://github.com/ronivay/XenOrchestraInstallerUpdater

Your experiences with XCP-ng?
with the unpaid version of xcp you get a quick install verion of XOA that is not fully featured, including not being able to update and patch. But with this github repo you can install the fully featured XOA from the source. they even have a docker image of it if I remeber correctly. Or you can pay for support and get the full version.
- Got my first Homelab setup in the shed, it's an old Dell Poweredge T610, got it for a cool AUD$260. I setup Unraid and am loving it, any suggestions for stuff to run with it?

There's also a script available written by another nperson which will automate the deployment of a Libre (Free) Edition (aka "From the sources" version) of XOA for you in a matter of minutes. Give this a look: https://github.com/ronivay/XenOrchestraInstallerUpdater
