You should be able to install xWSL at the very least. If it spits out an error let me know or post your issue to the project's GitHub issues page.

These scripts will build a complete RDP-accessible Linux desktop environment in WSL. A GPU isn't needed to see a significant performance gain over 'stock' XRDP.

How do I fix WSL (7) ERROR ?
Uninstall Kali then try re-installing with this PowerShell one-liner. If that works you can try converting it to WSL2 afterwards.

I have an installer script which will get you started with Kali in WSL1. You can covert it to WSL2 if your hardware allows it.
