Ask HN: What Underrated Open Source Project Deserves More Recognition?
https://github.com/NightscoutFoundation/xDrip
xDrip+ is an unofficial and independent Android app which works as data hub and processor between many different devices.
It supports wireless connections to G4, G5, G6, G7, Medtrum A6, Libre via NFC and Bluetooth, 630G, 640G, 670G pumps, CareSens Air and Eversense CGM via companion apps. Bluetooth Glucose Meters such as the Contour Next One, AccuChek Guide, Verio Flex & Diamond Mini as well as devices like the Pendiq 2.0 Insulin Pen.
Heart-rate and step counter data is processed from Android Wear, Garmin, Fitbit and Pebble smart-watches and watch-faces for those that show glucose values and graphs.
On some Android Wear watches, it is possible for the G5 or G6 to talk directly to the watch so it can display values even when out of range of the phone.
The app contains sophisticated charting, customization and data entry features as well as a predictive simulation model.

Apps for T1D
xDrip, for sure, if you have an Android and a Dexcom. Diabetes-m is a pretty handy calculator, tracker and it has calorie/carb tracking. Tidepool is another that's a neat tool.

I just launched an iOS app to help calculate bolus doses - Bolus Guide
I'm using xdrip+ with cgm, which can help with it a lot, but theyre bolus recommendation isn't very user friendly. I think they are trying not to give recommendations because of the same fda issues. https://github.com/NightscoutFoundation/xDrip
- when will dexcom allow direct connection to smart watch without a phone in the middle

What is the solution to a chirping diabetes monitor?
If your brother has an android phone and is a little technically savvy, suggest setting up xDrip+ to monitor the dexcom rather than the default device. There's a ton of features, but he wouldn't need to use most of them if he didn't want to. The great thing about the app in this case is that you can setup detailed custom alarm profiles that depend on things like time-of-day and specific blood sugar levels. You can set the alarm to get increasingly louder, or set it to play a custom alarm ringtone or sound of your choosing. This has really helped me because I can change the alarm sound every year or so to avoid sleeping through it.

Need Help with creating a custom Watchface which shows my bloodsugar values!
Other option is to use xDrip+ https://github.com/jamorham/xDrip-plus which does have custom complication too

Google Pixel Watch: will I see my g6 readings?
There's documentation here on how to get it working in standalone mode.

Alert settings for son (2yr old)
Our son was also diagnosed at 2. We run xdrip+ on our phones and it has a very loud alarm that's guaranteed to wake you up. We run the Follow app as a second alarm. We also have the receiver in our bedroom as a third alarm and a backup in case share stops working (rare but it does happen).

Is there a CGM that will alert family or neighbors if you’re really low or high?
For Android, xDrip+ contains an Emergency Message feature, which can send a text with your location if you don't respond to alarms: https://i.imgur.com/xTs8830.png

Dexcom and the limitations of the 'Follow' app for parents
Presume XDrip is likely the answer… but might need someone with experience getting it going. https://github.com/jamorham/xDrip-plus/blob/master/Documentation/WatchGuide.md

Dexcom G6 + Watch for 5YO boy
If you are willing to change the operating system and enter die DIY-world, this might be possible. Take a look at this link: https://github.com/jamorham/xDrip-plus/blob/master/Documentation/WatchGuide.md In the section "Choosing a Watch" there seem to be some tried and tested Android Wear watches. The keyword being "collector", which means the watch can run as a standalone. I only know my way around xdrip and have never used a watch like this, so I can only point you in that direction. Of course you should read the entire document or at least what seems relevant to you now.
