www.haskell.org VS with-utf8

Haskell - a general-purpose functional language with many unique properties (purely functional, lazy, expressive types, STM, etc). You mentioned you dabbled in Haskell, why not try it again? Where you go is entirely up to you. According to haskell.org, Haskell jobs are a-plenty. sigh

I just jumped into the wiki "Write Yourself a Scheme in 48 hours" which looks pretty good. (although some of the text explanation is hard to understand without context).. I used cabal to set up the starter project. Sublime editor seems to work OK and I just use the git Bash shell on windows to compile the program directly on the command line. So maybe this is all good enough for now (?). It seems installing it from haskell.org with ghcup was more straight forward than I thought.

We made or are making some (small for now) contributions to projects like Cabal and haskell.org, and we hope to ramp it up as time goes.

Yeah, definitely. We're working on adding a guide[1] like that to haskell.org as we speak :)

p.s. I am also working on a PR for haskell.org that would hopefully make the webpage a bit more friendly for newcomers, also focused on clearly outlining the journey to get started with Haskell easily. Invalid byte sequence sounds like a locale issue (see this blog post).

The real fix will happen when Data.Text moves from UTF-16 to UTF-8:

Fortunately this proposal has been accepted, but I don't know the timeline for its implementation in GHC.

Also: libraries need to be fixed to accept Data.Text instead of String. IsString helps (it's a typeclass that contains all string types) but only if APIs take it instead of defaulting to String. Adding random string conversions to cope with legacy APIs is very annoying.

Agda is written in Haskell, and the quoted error message is a common problem with applications written in Haskell. You probably have an environment variable like LC_CTYPE or LC_ALL which is set to an unusual value. I'd try setting LANG, LC_CTYPE and LC_ALL to en_US.utf8.
