Wine-tkg or Linux-tkg in Ubuntu Studio?
Is it possible for Ubuntu Studio to have the kernel upgraded -it is at 5.15 atm? The kernel from the Frogging Family: https://github.com/Frogging-Family/linux-tkg And how do I install wine-tkg 😅 I cant seems to figure it out. https://github.com/Frogging-Family/wine-tkg-git

Weird makedep segmentation fault when './configure'ing Wine source
True that. I always prefer to install everything through the package manager. Sadly, the wine-tkg from ap-overlay is widely outdated. And it doesn't have a live ebuild version.
- Is there anyway to get Mortal Kombat 11 to run on Steam? Just bought it and I see that it won't actually run on Linux.

Proof of concept version of wine-lol 5.18
The only changes I made were to * create a new directory called /usr/local/portage/myrepo/app-emulation/wine-tkg * copy the wine-staging ebuild into it with the name wine-tkg-9999.ebuild * Apply the following changes with respect to the official wine-staging-9999 ebuild (only the branch has any effect really the commit-lines were attempts to avoid having to create a new branch) 15,16d14 < EGIT_REPO_URI="https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git" < EGIT_BRANCH="master" 17a16,23 > #EGIT_REPO_URI="https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git" > #EGIT_REPO_URI="https://github.com/Tk-Glitch/wine-tkg/" > EGIT_REPO_URI="/path/to/local/wine-tkg/repository" > EGIT_BRANCH="five_eighteen" > # commit: sync with 5.18-r3 > #EGIT_OVERRIDE_COMMIT_WINE="e379f968" > #EGIT_OVERRIDE_COMMIT_WINE_STAGING_WINE_STAGING="e379f968" > #EGIT_COMMIT="e379f968"

Is there any way to use proton without steam?
Yes you can, wine-tkg offers it too https://github.com/Frogging-Family/wine-tkg-git

PSA: If you're on playing on Linux with wine and DXVK, you can now play with AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution(FSR).
Compile either the original patch submitted to valve's wine fork, or compile wine-tkg, as it also has the FSR patch added to fshack. If you trust them, you can also download a pre-compiled package here.

Does anyone already use SteamOS and does it represent what we will get on the Deck?
Not using SteamOS 3, but a distro (Artix, basically Arch with another init system) that is based on what SteamOS 3 is based on, and I can assure you that it is probably the best Linux distro for gaming. I personally recommend getting the linux-tkg kernel (https://github.com/Frogging-Family/linux-tkg) alongside its wine builds (https://github.com/Frogging-Family/wine-tkg-git). The BMQ and PDS schedulers work best for me. I doubt SteamOS 3 will be a whole lot different from stock Arch in terms of gaming performance.

Heroic Games Launcher and Proton GE
Is not using proton a problem, though? I use a custom wine build which should include (most) patches proton also has.

How to uninstall wine-tkg?
I have installed wine-tkg as explained here and it now shows in the configurations of Lutris under "Wine version": System (6.4.r0.g7ec998e1 (TkG Staging Esync Fsync)).

Update of leagueoflegends-git script and the AUR package for transitioning to 64-bit wine
Things may not be as easy on Ubuntu since there doesn't seem to be a packaged wine-lol that's ready to install. If one's going to install wine-lol manually, they'd need to understand and follow the commands of either the wine-lol pkgbuild or the wine-lol-bin pkgbuild, at which point I'd argue getting an Arch-based user-friendly distro might be easier for non-tech-savvy users. Unfortunately I don't have an Ubuntu machine to work on that or test it myself.

Short game freeze ( 2-3 seconds ) + Huge performance hit [Patch 12.12] [wine-lol] [Ubuntu 22.04LTS]

[EndeavourOS] League of Legends won't launch anymore.
It's even better to build wine-lol with the Slow start fix patch, the client will start up in a few seconds.

Getting X Error when running League on the Steamdeck
I self compiled wine-lol, with a few deck spefic changes to the file path, since I don't want to disable the read-only FS (yet). I also got the other wine dependencies and preloaded them with LD_LIBRARY Path and with this I got into the Client.

I've opened a pr for this issue here. Maybe someone else in this sub could give it a shot as well before it gets merged.
