is this game dead?
You will probably get tradelocked early on if you don't set up your account's security measures. When setting up the authenticator, you can use authy instead of google's app or winauth if you don't have a phone.
-
I cant post my mythic key for SBG without authenticator because it won't autofill.
I don't know if it still works but there's a tool for windows you could use. https://github.com/winauth/winauth

About the account vault
Winauth is a thing that exists as well, but it's not actively maintained anymore. I don't recommend anyone use it unless using a phone is not an option. DO YOU GUYS NOT HAVE PHONES!?

Ask HN: What are the alternatives to phone authentication?
> I don't like this single point of failure.
Honestly, this causes me much uncertainty in regards to something like Google Authenticator or other TOTP solutions.
I mean, Google's solution in particular has a "Transfer accounts" option that lets you use QR codes for a backup, but that still feels somewhat worse than having desktop software as well like KeePass and some password/biometrics protected database file like .kdbx that I could open on my phones, tablets, computers etc.
Apparently the closest you can get on the desktop is Authy, which is a TOTP client that runs on multiple platforms: https://authy.com/download/
There was also WinAuth, but it seemingly isn't updated anymore, at least since 2018: https://github.com/winauth/winauth

sell items or turn them into gems?
For a temporary period either use https://github.com/Jessecar96/SteamDesktopAuthenticator or https://github.com/winauth/winauth to transfer your 2FA to 1 one of those as otherwise Steam Mobile App will drive you nuts making you confirm 2600 items 1 by 1. There are many YouTube videos and Steam Guides how to do this properly and those apps have Auto-Market confirm functionality.

Any way of getting around Google Authenticator ?
If all else fails, you can try using winauth 3.6.2 for this. It's an old program, but afaik it gets the job done.

Question Dfo fam...
You don't have to use google's authenticator program for the purposes of your account's security. You can use winauth or authy instead.

TOTP tokens on my wrist with the smartest dumb watch
Several options...
Not exactly the same, but if you're using Bitwarden (which is compatible with generating TOTP tokens) to manage your passwords, you can use their bitwarden-cli tool to request tokens from the cli: https://bitwarden.com/help/cli/#get
But if you want the simplest cli thing, you can probably can use this golang ( https://github.com/yitsushi/totp-cli ) or this python ( https://github.com/WhyNotHugo/totp-cli ) implementations.

2FA app for Linux?
Have you checked Authy or totp-cli ? I've used Authy for a long time but have now moved to totp-cli which I use with rofi.

totp-cli written in python, uses pass
What are some alternatives?
totp-cli - Authy/Google Authenticator like TOTP CLI tool written in Go.
extract_otp_secrets - Extract one time password (OTP) secrets from QR codes exported by two-factor authentication (2FA) apps such as "Google Authenticator". The exported QR codes from authentication apps can be captured by camera, read from images, or read from text files. The secrets can be exported to JSON or CSV, or printed as QR codes to console.
