Will Waterfox auto update if I install the tarball?
Waterfox will not auto udate using a tarball. You have other options of install though, with appimage, deb, rpm and arch packages. See options on github.

Installing Waterfox current on Ubuntu 18.04
You don't need newer libc6. You can just install one of my packages following with https://github.com/hawkeye116477/waterfox-deb-rpm-arch-AppImage/blob/master/README.md (portable AppImage or from apt/PPA repository).

Do we really need Palemoon/Firefox?
A community member in r/KaiOS Discord server also developed a modern tool called Kaiware to get apps from BananaHackers WebStore and easily sideload them, available at this GitHub repository. You'll have to build the tool yourself, and it's only tested on macOS.
