Why everything is type (unknown) in VSCode?

Using ZLS with VSCode
IMO Zig changes too fast right now to maintain a nice plugin like ZLS. I used it for a while and it inevitably broke after a while when the language changed. I've found it's easier just to have simple syntax highlighting for the time being. VSCode has a plugin named "Zig" from Marc Tiehuis that does this (https://github.com/ziglang/vscode-zig).

Using ZLS with VSCode
I wanted to learn me some Zig and was setting up the required toolchains, installig the git versions of both zig and zls from the AUR and wanted to use my go-to editor VSCode, but I've been unable to get the ZLS extension working. I keep getting the same error as mentioned in this issue and there appears to be no solution for it or much activity in the repository for that matter. Is this a common problem and should I just setup a different editor for the time being or am I doing something wrong?
What are some alternatives?
