Also, I use this extension vim-zoom which simply adds a keybinding to zoom windows. In the readme it says that it can be used on statuslines:

Everything you need to know to configure neovim using lua
You should know that some variable names in vimscript are not valid in lua. We still have access to them but we can't use the dot notation. For example, vim-zoom has a variable called zoom#statustext and in vimscript we use it like this.

packer or paq?
And then, vim-plug, which is also from the author of the beloved fzf; vim-plug is arguably the more mature one, and the experience to configure it in lua isn't that bad, here's is mine for example.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing vim-zoom and dotvim you can also consider the following projects:
NeoZoom.lua - A simple usecase of floating window to help you focus.
paq-nvim - 🌚 Neovim package manager
vimpeccable - Neovim plugin that allows you to easily map keys directly to lua code inside your init.lua
packer.nvim - A use-package inspired plugin manager for Neovim. Uses native packages, supports Luarocks dependencies, written in Lua, allows for expressive config
windows.nvim - Automatically expand width of the current window. Maximizes and restore it. And all this with nice animations!
bex.nvim - A Lua-to-Ex bridge for NeoVim
dotfiles
vim-packager - Vim plugin manager that utilizes "jobs" and "pack" features.
vim-plug - :hibiscus: Minimalist Vim Plugin Manager
