Out of the box, vim is already very good at text editing, but to supercharge your editing power, you would want to add some additional text objects. Most important for Python is bps/vim-textobj-python and kana/vim-textobj-indent.

surround-funk 2.0: A plugin inspired by tpope's surround.vim for working with function calls
I've released surround-funk 2.0 (you can also get it from vim.org). It allows you to delete, change and yank a surrounding function along with its additional arguments. With the surrounding function in the unnamed register, you can 'grip' a word or another function with it. 'Gripping' will wrap/encompass a word or function with the one you have in the unnamed register (see demos below).

surround-funk: A plugin inspired by tpope's surrond.vim for working with functions
I made surround-funk. A plugin that allows you to delete, change and yank a surrounding function along with its additional arguments. Then once the surrounding function is in the unnamed register, you can 'grip' a word or another function with it. 'Gripping' will wrap/encompass a word or function with the one you have in the unnamed register.
