Does a "leader mode" plugin exist?
Thanks! This looks like what I'm looking for, actually. From the issues, I found nvim-libmodal and vim-libmodal, which seem more actively maintained. I'll look into them!

Nvim-unception update - now supports git commits, multiple sessions, and free from reliance on external tools!
Thanks for the feedback! I personally bound a keymap to open a terminal in the buffer under the cursor using another plugin I wrote called vim-bufdir. With this, I toggle back and forth between the command line and the file.

Introducing dir-telescope.nvim - Find or Grep in a selected directory with telescope
A while back, I came up with a slightly different approach for my workflow to attempt to achieve similar functionality. Basically, I made a small plugin (please excuse the shameless self-plug) that adds a command to temporarily change your working directory to the directory under the cursor before executing the next command, and then I bound :Bufdir Telescope live_grep to a hotkey.
What are some alternatives?
