Thank you, but i didn't get what highlights.scm do you mean, it this one https://github.com/tree-sitter/tree-sitter-php/blob/master/queries/highlights.scm It doesn't contain @keyword for "$", only @operator one

The current CEDET can also be a nice foundation for other packages, like semantic-refactor, for some refactoring features and phps-mode a complete major mode with a nice parser (it uses wisent a parser that is part of CEDET).
