Regarding using external modules inside nested modules
So in the root dir I have created a main.tf that is sourcing git::https://github.com/terraform-aws-modules/terraform-aws-autoscaling.git

How do you manage eks aws-auth in terraform ?
If you look at the Cloudposse EKS module you can see the issue:

EKS cluster using terraform (Node groups)
I just provisioned the whole cluster using https://github.com/cloudposse/terraform-aws-eks-cluster/blob/master/examples/complete/main.tf which creates your managed groups, they have lot of modules there.

Alternatives to Terraform for AWS EKS deployments.
