What is Evil's equivalent of Vim's ctrl-g?
What I ended up doing was installing telephone-line. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for in that, either, but the default installation was both an improvement on the default installation of doom-modeline and closer to what I wanted.

Right-aligned modeline element gets moved when using `visual-fill-column-mode`
Hey! I ran into this same problem when using simple-modeline for Emacs, and I was able to fix it by replacing the (space :align-to (- right ,r-length)) with (space :align-to (- right (- 0 right-margin) ,reserve)) in the display property.
