also you can use an fpga as a great logic analyser. can decode all sorts of protocols. check papilio fpga, it’s the best cheapest logic analyser you could ever find. it’s been very handy, helped me build this thing (sounds a bit like what you’re trying do) https://github.com/newdigate/teensy-eurorack

I am looking to machine my own keyboard housing
there's a few pcbs that are both open source and are sold in stock, some that come to mind are the waffling60 (link to store, link to github) and the plain60 (link to store, link to github). im sure you could find others in different layouts as well, these are just two that ive looked into before. dunno if the bakeneko files available and the cannonkeys pcb are the same, that might also be worth looking into
What are some alternatives?

plain60-c - Universally compatible 60% PCB with minimal layout support and USB-C
Polaron - A DIY drum machine for the teensy microcontroller (hardware / software)
Lost-NDS-TV - The Lost Nintendo DS Television Output, brought back to life
synth-modules - Synth module schematics and code
The_Uni - A uni-board split ortholinear made for stenography. Uses QMK Firmware's Gemini Protocol. This is the pro micro version (aka Uni v2)
EnvOpenPico - An open source RP2040 MCU Board Family
Seismos - A split keyboard that evolves the concept of the Zebra keyboard, but fancier
arisutea-pcb-stm32 - PCB design files for Arisutea STM32 Keyboard
