Let us start with the terminal itself. Alacritty is a cross-platform modern terminal emulator with sensible defaults. It is GPU accelerated, super fast, and highly configurable. You can use it on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It doesn't have much in terms of a UI, and hence all configurations are done through YAML files. I don't use it as my primary terminal as I love Yakuake too much for all its cool features. We can get most of those features (tabs, split panes, dropdown mode) using tmux and tdrop if really needed. I use Alacrity when I need speed and GPU acceleration. There is an excellent tutorial on using Alacritty with tmux.

I've been using tdrop for about a year and not knowing how to get rid of the green bar it put at the bottom. Well, now that's fixed and I've learned to use tmux to switch between newsboat, cmus, lf, etc. -TY!

So it's pretty clear what happens and why. I'm using tdrop, a little tool that allows you to use any terminal emulator as a drop-down terminal/scratchpad. Calling tdrop terminal with some parameters will show a terminal window, calling it again will hide it. I've bound this to a key, let's say HOTKEY.

I use Thunderbird, but also gcalcli (https://github.com/insanum/gcalcli) for quickly viewing daily agendas and adding events in the terminal. It has a nice “quick add” function that lets you add event using a natural language interface — you can type something like “Lunch with Amy next Wednesday at 2 PM at Trevino’s” and it will parse out the event name, time, and location. Google Calendar used to have something like this but removed it in a UI update.

gcalcli: really just a CLI interface to Google Calendar, so bringing it to mobile would basically involve re-inventing Google Calendar.

I had to compile gcalcli, which eventually got merged in the repos. I also compiled Vorta and Grace.

It is absolutely possible. So I have an app which uses the gcalcli tool on Ubuntu. It integrates with my personal google calendar by using my own personal google cloud project with the calendar api enabled, and I provide it a desktop oauth token and secret. I run it as a testing project. Until now, it’s been working fine, but from today, I keep getting an error message on the oauth screen saying that it’s trying to access my sensitive data and it’s been blocked. As much as I’m confident I haven’t changed anything, I could well have.

gcalcli: terminal interface for Google Calendar.

Yeah; it is 500. But it works for me with the `gcalcli`[1] — a Python command-line tool that uses GCal API. (I'm assuming it's not serving me stale data.)
