TagLib# VS picard

I want to use taglib-sharp to retrieve extended information about video files.

I am trying to the metadata on jpg files. I am using taglibsharp following this article.

It sounds like you're referring to the ID3 metadata. I found this library that appears to have had recent development activity (judging solely on the last commit date on github).

I am working on two different C# projects to help organize my large collection of photos and videos. I have figured out how to read metadata from images (like when the items were taken, etc.), but what I cannot figure out is how to write/modify metadata in image and video files. I experimented with the examples in the README of TagLib# to try modifying metadata, but it wouldn’t work. I would attempt to modify the metadata but it didn't seem to actually modify the file at all. What I would like to do is find a way to modify the date taken metadata of photos and videos in my projects. Is there a way to do this, and if so how? I would greatly appreciate any info or help on how to do this. Thank you!

When a photo is imported into a library, Jellyfin reads the EXIF/XMP properties from the file and populates the corresponding Jellyfin properties (a.k.a. metadata). (Actually it uses a package named taglib-sharp to read the properties from the file.)

Another vote for Taglib-Sharp (NuGet Package). I started writing a module using it, but I got distracted. Here is a really good write up of how to use it

You probably need this and this with SearchOption.AllDirectories. Then use File.Move to rename each file.

It can be used effectively as a "private spotify". Labeling is a solved problem thanks to https://picard.musicbrainz.org/, and the fact that a lot of the music you buy these days comes pre-labeled already.

You then have a web-app (and/or a mobile app, if that's your thing) where you can stream music as you would with Spotify.

You can even build yourself a little music-sharing commune with friends, where you all upload the albums you buy and accumulate a nice collection of diverse tunes.

I use picard for my collection. My work flow is Picard > Lyrics Finder > Foobar for BPM, RealGain and DR > Custom python script to pull genre and mood from Last.FM and spotify> then Advanced Renamer to perform naming clean up of folder names. I lowercase and underscore spaces. Also does files if I happen to need Mp3Tag when Picard doesn't find anything. Once this is done I move files on to may NAS.

Musicbrainz Picard - A great application that I've used in the past to identify and organize my saved music collection. It's not focused on adding semantic tags though: it's used for adding metadata to .mp3 files.

I do the same but run it though Picard[0] before adding to Plex.

feed all of your music to something like 'musicbrainz picard' - it will sort out all the tags and provide the artwork too

Aside from properly ripping and tagging your own physical collection I'd generally refer you to r/piracy but I think they've gone a bit strange since the blackout. I'm fairly sure anything more specific in that direction would not be appropriate for this subreddit.
