Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

i dont like systemd
sysz can be a useful tool for the inexperienced. It's a very simple TUI for system to and can open the journal for a unit. Check it out!
- Chmod-CLI: A simple tool that brings the chmod command in a TUI
- sysz: An interactive fuzzy matching TUI for systemctl using fzf written entirely in Bash

I want to move from linux to bsd
Say you really want to pin to Apache 2.5.54. Create a new empty repo, add a www/apache24 dir, and copy the files from that version of the ports tree into it.

Git archive checksums may change
They have not been stable

chromium disappeared from packages?
As for announcements: how would this information be delivered to you? :) Major breakages that impact users are expected to tracked in Ports (not pkgs) through review of /usr/ports/CHANGES and /usr/ports/UPDATING. If a port gets renamed (moved), you'll find it mentioned there, or possibly in /usr/ports/MOVED (not human-readable). You can view those on the GitHub mirror if you wish, since not everyone builds from Ports: https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports

New to FreeBSD. Problem with apps complaining about XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
About installation, I think the same, the variable is set dynamically for each normal user. And I think I have one suspect: sysutils/consolekit2. Wayland says that it is one of the options: https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports/blob/2d487a43aa142c32eabdd8feeb4ca523d24c6a42/graphics/wayland/pkg-message

i dont like systemd
Gentoo and FreeBSD handle it in their "ports" tree, making it quite obvious what is required on source based package systems.
- How much did Sony contribute to the freebsd codebase?

FreeBSD upgrade
Do you know if the ports tree is downloaded with https? Is it from this git repo?

OPNsense 22.1 released
os-realtek-re is using the same driver as the vendor version with a few more fixes that we didn't have previously. Back when we started using the vendor driver the FreeBSD ports tree didn't have it. That's one reason why we wanted to switch back and still support it via plugin. Also made sure to move our patches to FreeBSD, see https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports/commit/6a4e552e407

Which other OS are production ready aside from the big three ones?
I think it that case you would like FreeBSD (if you really dont want to use win macos or linux distros). It supports linux binaries and a LOT of linux apps are ported to it (like vscode). Its hard to set it up at first (installing a DE, firmware, setup audio, etc) but it has an awesome community and a script to set it up for daily use called desktop-installer. It has a decent package manager called pkg thats very easy to use and the freebsd ports collection which makes building from source very easy.
What are some alternatives?
