Locally transcode VOD content with Eyevinn Ingest Application Framework and SVT Encore
AWS is great for this kind of applications but if you want to be able to do the video transcoding locally an alternative to AWS MediaConvert is SVT Encore which is a open source video transcoder build on FFmpeg and Redis and is developed by Swedish Television.

Locally transcode VOD content with Eyevinn Ingest Application Framework and SVT Encore
The general idea is that it should be as easy to use this plugin together with the other IAF plugins, and to chain them together as we did with the IAF AWS MediaConvert plugin in the previous post to push local VOD content to AWS.

To automate this process as much as possible the IAF AWS transcoding plugin and the newly added IAF MediaPackage plugin to push transcoded content to MediaPackage can be used.

The Eyevinn ingest application framework: making ingest flows modular
Our main module, the AwsUploadModule implements the IafUploadModule interface, but also expands upon it. Under the hood, we have modules that interact with S3 (as a middle point, since MediaConvert requires HTTP inputs to e publicly accessible), and AWS MediaConvert. The rest of your IAF application doesn't need to know that though; all it needs it the onFileAdd method, which promises to take care of any files added to you ingest location. If you want to look at the code, the GitHub repo is publicly available, and the plugin itself is freely available for you to use in your own ingest applications.
