SvelteKit: Use local database in the browser
idb-keyval is a great library for storing simple data in the browser using IndexedDB. secure-ls is great for storing data securely in Local Storage in the browser. There is also svelte-local-storage-store for saving and retrieving data to/from Local Storage in the browser easily with just a svelte store.

JWT Authentication in Svelte-Kit
Without SSR, I just used a localstore-backed store for the JWT ( https://github.com/joshnuss/svelte-local-storage-store ) and used onMount() rather than preload()/load() so it only ran authenticated functions on the front end.

Database in Chrome Extension?
I use IndexedDB, specifically the idb library (https://github.com/jakearchibald/idb), or Dexie.js (https://dexie.org/) if you are more novice. This works great for large sets of data. For smaller amounts, Chrome Storage API will do.

The modern way of setting up IndexedDB
So that kind of ends this simple setup. It's incredible how little help you're able to find online regarding all of this, so hopefully this will help myself in the future, and maybe some lost soul will stumble upon it as well. There's loads of other features that can be used, but I won't get into that right now. You can find more examples on Jake Archibald's library readme: https://github.com/jakearchibald/idb
