Opening and closing files in FreeRTOS
SPIFFS is an absolutely pain to deal with if you somehow corrupt the filesystem and have no reasonable filesystem health check implemented. That's a question I'd definitely try to answer through further investigation. It's not clear if that's a risk based on my quick reading of this page related to SPIFFS: https://github.com/pellepl/spiffs/wiki/Using-spiffs.

What languages can I use with the esp32?
You can run LUA on the ESP32. It's strongly associated with "NodeMCU" which was the name of an ESP8266 board that it originally ran on. At this point "NodeMCU" is mostly word salad and gets applied generically to so many ESP8266 and ESP32 boards that it's virtually meaningless, but the LUA firmware is well supported and works.
