  • Aux.computer: An Alternative to the Nix Ecosystem
    4 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 29 Apr 2024
For reference, I use Nix a lot. I was pushing it pretty hard at Intuit while I worked there.

All my systems are managed with it:

And I have created projects like Snowfall Lib to make working with certain features easier:

  • Why is the documentation... nowhere to be found?!
    2 projects | /r/NixOS | 8 Dec 2023
I'm really excited by Jake Hamilton's work on snowfall and related stuff -- there are a few of these around (Haumea and Colmena, I think, haven't read much about them) but I think this is the sort of thing that would -- once fully ripened -- help significantly in terms of organizing an approach. Right now Nix feels a bit like Ruby before Rails -- a great language with a lot of potential but not a lot of focus. I think a thoroughly documented, worked example of how to build and maintain multi-system architecture will help a lot in guiding people through the mess of docs.

    2 projects | /r/NixOS | 21 Jul 2023
This guide will walk you through the process of securely providing secrets to a NixOS system using Hashicorp Vault. It assumes that you already have a Hashicorp Vault server up and running, and that your NixOS configuration is set up using Snowfall-lib. The method described here is inspired by Jake Hamilton.
