Which is more of a pain in the ass: connecting to databases via SSH tunnels, or whitelisting IP addresses?
Another option can be openvpn, https://github.com/theonemule/simple-openvpn-server.

How much work does a VPN "server" (internal only) have to do as it scales?
Say I want to setup a VPN between 5 computers. I would need one server that "hosts" the VPN and configuration files for each of the 5 computers. The purpose of the VPN is purely to allow the 5 computers to securely communicate. It does not provide routing to the internet via the VPN. I could probably use something like https://github.com/theonemule/simple-openvpn-server on the cheapest VPS I could find and it would have no problems.

Give employees in China access to blocked websites
From a technical perspective just go with whichever suits you better - if you have the tech skills to set it up yourself that's probably cheaper. If not, or you don't have time, go with a provider. For a very simple DIY VPN, https://github.com/theonemule/simple-openvpn-server is pretty easy to setup!

Cloudflare Tunnels vs reverse-proxy VPS?
Another VPN option is https://github.com/theonemule/simple-openvpn-server - It's open source, all you need is a VPS then run the install script. Once it's finished, you can create clients and download the openvpn config file for them from the web interface.

OpenVPN config doesn't work on Linux but does on Windows and Android
I'm fighting a weird issue plaguing both a friend and myself. I'm using the kylemanna/openvpn docker container on the server side and whatever OpenVPN client there is on clients.

Populating Signal proxy for Iran?
Talking with some contacts I have, right now the big ask is for secure VPNs. If you can host a server (location should be outside the US and other western countries so CSPs may by your best option) that would perhaps be the best. OpenVPN is a solid choice and there are docker images you can use to readily deploy: https://github.com/kylemanna/docker-openvpn a solution.

Which vpn server setup do you use? Container / no Container, GUI / CLI?
When I look into vpn servers, I find easy installers, which directly work on linux (e.g. angristan/wireguard-install) or also vpns, which operate from docker (like kylemanna/docker-openvpn). Then there are options, where multiple things are included, like firezone or this. I am not so sure how well they integrate with my reverse proxy and some seem to be much more complicated than others.
