Setting up my own node?
running seth's docker image https://github.com/sethforprivacy/simple-monerod-docker under docker desktop would be a much better solution. you really don't want to run a full desktop environment just for monerod

As of today, Monero GUI is available as a flatpak
I don't know if monero works on Alpine, however it works on debian:stable-slim. There is already https://github.com/sethsimmons/simple-monerod-docker but an official one mantained it's another level

How to install .bz2 apps
Hey congrats on the switch! I would recommend against trying to install apps in this way. The package format you’re going to have the best time with is Flatpak. Some app developers distribute their own Flatpak apps through their own websites, but usually they submit them to a store like AppCenter or FlatHub. It looks like this app is available on FlatHub, so that’s where I’d recommend getting it from: https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.getmonero.Monero

It should be. It is maintained directly under the flathub repository https://github.com/flathub/org.getmonero.Monero
