There's nothing mandatory about the initial shortcuts - just remove them. It's trivial to change your search engine to Duck Duck Go too.

As firefox's sync is end-to-end encrypted, I don't think it's bad for privacy. Firefox can't see your details even if they wanted to due to this protocol.
