It serves as a starting point, but there's lots more you can do here with all the plugins available in the Rollup ecosystem. Make sure to explore the awesome curated selection, and see if there's anything else that is applicable to your project.

For more information, refer to the Rollupjs.org website. The big list of Rollup.js options describes all the command line switches and you can browse the awesome list of Rollup.js plugins. You'll find dozens of plugins for building and optimizing HTML, CSS, files, images, TypeScript, data URIs, code quality, and more. You can also integrate Rollup.js with Deno, Grunt, Gulp, React, Angular, Vue, and Svelte projects. I recommend you keep your configuration simple at first then add further configuration options as your knowledge of Rollup.js grows.

There's so much more you can configure (CSS/preprocessor support, various config differences in production versus dev, a wide ecosystem of very cool plugins), so hopefully this post has helped you dip your toe in and actually understand the Svelte/Rollup process enough to keep configuring it to your heart's desire!

This creates a basic Svelte project for us from this template. We still have to install the packages that come with the template though. We can use either yarn or npm for this but I'll use yarn.

I didn't want to use Sveltekit because I don't think I would benefit a lot from things like routing and ssr, which would end up adding unnecessary complexity. I also didn't want to use some of the Svelte templates out there because they point to a repo that is now archived in favour of Vite and/or Sveltekit. Also, since I was at it, I decided to throw in a CSS framework and ended up choosing Tailwind to complete my template, but you could ignore it and go with the svelte way of doing things if you prefer.

This. Using the svelte template as OP did, you should have a public directory by default.

Grab your favorite Svelte template. I'm a typescript+pug+stylus weirdo, but the standard Svelte-provided one is a good place to start.
