Software for organizing board game nights?
You should be able to do this with nextcloud Office: https://nextcloud.com/collaboraonline/ It’s basically like google docs, so med students should be pretty familiar with the look and feel.

NC Office Doesn't load when document is shared from another nextcloud instance
I also looked at the documentation here https://github.com/nextcloud/richdocuments which has a section for Federated editing. It tells me that I need to update a tag called "frame_ancestors" but when I do and push the new coolwsd.xml file to the docker image, it attempts to restart the service and then fails to ever start it again, but then I'm not sure if that will really fix the problem or not.

Live Guest Document Sharing
Sorry I don't have an answer, but I'm curious how you installed nextcloud office 5? I've tried to research this on several occasions and from what I've read it sounded like "nextcloud office" is just collabora online but rebranded somehow, and I couldn't find instructions on how to install anything other than collabora. The nextcloud/office repo has a link named "Nextcloud office" in the readme that directs to nextcloud/richdocuments repo, where the readme describes it as an app to integrate collabora online, and the about describes it as "collabora online for nextcloud" with a link to nextcloud.com/collaboraonline

Is there a google docs like app to use on Linux you would recommend?
Collabora seems to be a leading competitor for real-time document editing, you can see it bundled into Nextcloud Hub here: https://nextcloud.com/collaboraonline/

Grist - Free open source alternative to Airtable and Google Sheets. A relational spreadsheet UI to SQLite database with customizable layouts, data linking, and Python formulas.
It can be self hosted as well :D

Collabora + Nextcloud
I solved it. It turns out https://nextcloud.com/collaboraonline/ left an outdated guide for nginx reverse proxy as they changed lool to cool (see my post i have updated it with solved link)

Collaborative/sharing aspect of google drive
A self-hosted solution like, say, Nextcloud Collabora, or some FOSS groupware software, unless you also hate paying for hosting and maintaining a server.

Ask HN: Hackable Personal Database?
I'm looking for the same. Open source, self hosted, and end-to-end encrypted.
I haven't found anything that really does all of this, but it seems like Cryptpad[0] and Peergos[1] are viable platforms upon which something like this could be built.
Except for encryption, Atomic Data[2] seems like a really cool platform to build this on.

Proton launches its own version of Google Docs
I see that they claim all of their apps and libraries are open source[0]. But they only link to the OpenPGP libraries they're using. Is this actually open source? Following the "Open Source" footer link[1], here they only link to the ProtonMail Github account with nothing mentioning ProtonDrive.
And if it is actually open source, I'd love to see a comparison to CryptPad[2]
> which is why we’ve made all our apps and encryption libraries open source

Ask HN: What Underrated Open Source Project Deserves More Recognition?
I discovered these 3 amazing projects recently:

Immich, google photos self hostable, with share options https://github.com/immich-app/immich

I work for XWiki SAS. Two products we develop have it:
- XWiki, a extensible wiki platform, experimentally [1] but soon to be fully supported
- CryptPad [2], an end-to-end encrypted collaborative platform. And actually, CryptPad was accidentally born as a first attempt to have this feature in XWiki.

Google Docs adds tracking to links in document exports
Hey, very happy to see you so enthusiastic!
I'll be sure to transmit your feedback to the CryptPad team.
I'm not an expert myself so while I might know some stuff, it'd be better to talk to them directly.
Come say hello on the Matrix #cryptpad-general channel [1], don't hesitate to open issues on the bug tracker, and to browse the CryptPad's website [2].
