Resume Advice Thread - November 22, 2022
I think it's best to explicitly say I took a year off (at the top of work experience) vs letting them wonder why I haven't worked in a year. But I used this Lever Resume Parser and it says my last position is "Personal Travel" which is obviously undesirable. Thoughts?

Constantly Auto rejected. New Grad SWE, need advise and critique please. 3 months looking for a Job and I think its because of my resume.
This resume (and the bullet points especially) is very very good and honestly I'm kind of shocked you're not getting interviews or OAs. Check if this resume is being parsed correctly (I think this site works, had it bookmarked for a while back https://resume-parser.vercel.app/, but anything from google will work)

Having issues with getting interviews
If you're not getting any response after submitting your resume you should try sticking it through a resume parser; this one is one of the first that pops up in google and uses Lever's API. If your info is coming out formatted well and the skills match the requirements in the job posting then you should probably be getting calls back.

Summer 2022 Internship applications in May
It was my first internship search and I applied to 280-ish postings. If you're not hearing back after 300, it might be that your resume isn't parsing through the ATS screeners correctly or maybe it's the resume content. There's a weekly resume advice thread in this subreddit maybe you can share it there for some people to review or you can dm me it and I'll try to help! I know this is one of the popular templates that people use -https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/jakes-resume/syzfjbzwjncs. Also, to check if it parses correctly - https://resume-parser.vercel.app/.

Is a two column resume really that bad?
The main reason why people say two column resumes are bad is because it doesn't get parsed very well. You can try uploading your resume at a parser (https://resume-parser.vercel.app/) and see how it looks. My first resume was also a two-column one and it looked pretty bad so I switched to a one column.

How do I know if my resume is able to be parsed by ATS?

Reactive Resume - Trouble or alternative?
I've read some forums and some have suggested that the container is not working because the .env values are not present at container creation, but I have not seen a YAML file for V2 that I could use to add them in.

Resumary: a modern resume builder
It looks nice, you should add a picture option so people can add their own photos. I'm currently using https://rxresu.me/ as my go-to resume builder.

Does anyone know of a free resume creator?
https://rxresu.me completely free and pretty good. I liked it.

Is there an app I can use to make a resume? Nothing super fancy at all. Just basic for a part time job at a bookstore.
Reactive Resume I only found this yesterday and just started playing with it but it seems intriguing. It is free and from what I can see is if you login anonymously it doesn't store your data in the cloud (you can download the data to upload at a later date if you need to adjust something)
