LCD GUI built in JS ? — General Quesiton
I am a webdev but don't have a compsci education. I came across an interesting Arduino project which hacks a popular espresso machine to expose greater control of and expand the limits of the machine's capabilities. To my surprise I see the UI was built with React. I'm having trouble understanding the bridge between the C/C++ code and the React GUI on the LCD. Is the webserver being hosted by the arduino? Does it need to connect to the router? Am i misunderstanding how this works entirely? I guess my main question is not specifically this project but how a GUI for an LCD screen can be built in JS.

What are some things a retired chemical engineer in his 70s can do?
Homebrewing and coffee come to mind. Homebrewing you can sink a lot of money into a set up and work on process control similar to industry. If he likes coffee (particularly espresso) he should look into buying a gaggia classic pro and doing the gaggiuino mod
