Any substitute for RCU?
I never used RCU but if you just need the raw data, you may use rsync to back up the data regularly; or, I use CLI tool rmapi to download zip files with human-friendly file names from remarkable cloud. Then you may process the raw data with RCU?

Is this workflow possible without the subscription?
I use rsync, but not with a cron. Check out https://github.com/lucasrla/remarkable-utils for an easy implementation of rsync. If you want to mark up pdf files and then get your annotations, check out https://github.com/lucasrla/remarks

Complete local conversion of annotated PDFs in v3 format?
I guess it shouldn't be that hard to create, if one combines the logic of rm2pdf for including the background PDF with the .rm processing of rmc, for example. Maybe I'll try to stitch something together...

rm2pdf : support for rmapi zip files
If you use the rmapi tool to manage your reMarkable on the cloud, I've just added support to rm2pdf for writing pdfs from rmapi zip files in release v0.1.4.

rm2pdf : write remarkable file bundles to layered PDFs : updated to 0.1.3
Thanks very much for your help at https://github.com/rorycl/rm2pdf/issues/8 -- your testing on darwin/arm is greatly appreciated, together with the issues you are reporting. Unfortunately the pdf import library I'm using isn't wholly reliable and one has to do a conversion step with pdftk to resave the pdf -- at least on my linux/amd64 machine.

rm2pdf annotated pdf renderer updated to 0.0.3 with "insert page" support
I've updated rm2pdf, a command line app to convert remarkable files with or without underlying PDFs to layered PDFs with customisable pen colours, to version 0.0.3.
