DNS settings are using a custom subdomain that is set up as an A record. Needs to be a CNAME
Then to get a more readable domain name, I tried to the domain brandon-hoffman.is-a.dev with the repo/project: https://github.com/is-a-dev/register.

Any other free CNAME/DNS sites like js.org?
I know of js.org, js.cool, is-a.dev, runs-on.tech, thedev.id, js.cool, mod.land, etc, but I really want a "js dot something" subdomain and js.org AND js.cool both have requirements that I cannot meet.

Best web host for a web developer? What do you use?
If you're just serving static content, GitHub Pages (host) + is-a-dev (domain name) is a pretty good combo. Otherwise, I agree with what's already been said in other comments so reference them.

Can Git or any other VCS be used as a database instead of SQL/NoSQL ones? Have you ever seen such a thing?
js.org, the Organization that hosts free subdomains on the js.org Domain, use a JSON/JavaScript file to keep track of all subdomains hosted under that domain. Again, people can ask for their subdomains to be added through PRs, and the maintainers get to use the PR approval process to verify the contribution and decide on whether to add or not: https://github.com/js-org/js.org/blob/master/cnames_active.js
