Tailwind + DataTables = Living hell
Never tried this with datatables, but have had some success using Twin.macro's styled wrapper to apply tailwind to 3rd party libs. Maybe worth a shot?

Free Open Source Tailwind CSS Components
I've been using twin.macro on a side-project of mine, and have really enjoyed it: https://github.com/ben-rogerson/twin.macro
I especially like how easy it is to fall back onto ordinary Styled Components if I'm trying to implement more specific.
Here's a sample of what I've implemented with twin.macro: https://grueplan.com

The Anatomy Of My Ideal React Component
No matter what library you use, you are writing your CSS somewhere. I'm a fan of styled-components (we use them at work) and Tailwind (I use it in personal projects). Twin allows you to combine them together -- that way you can write custom CSS if you need to, and Tailwind is great for rapid prototyping and production-ready apps alike. Best of both worlds.

Is it a bad practice to used both Tailwind and Styled Components together?
I don't think it'd really have any performance hit besides what styled-components incurs but I think you should give twin-macro a try
