Make sure to install both SWS as it adds a lot of quality of life improvements, and ReaPack which can be used to install and manage extensions for Reaper.

Getting started with music production on Linux
Both Ardour and Reaper are great, however from my anecdotal experience, Reaper is much more stable. There's also a lot of community projects, a lot of which is FOSS, based around Reaper, such as reascripts and reapacks. Plenty of info, howtos and resources on the forum.
