  • Is it better to reuse a layout, or tap into the layout via a context?

I’ve experimented with something like this recently, and tbh i didn’t notice any performance issues. But it did obfuscate my layout a bit. I implemented an approach using a config file that allowed me to bypass some of this. But recently while looking for and comparing other solutions I came across this package that takes a similar approach: https://github.com/ytiurin/react-hook-layout — might give it a try on my next attempt.

  • Why hooks are the best thing to happen to React

I don’t really understand the authors reasoning either. Classes in JavaScript are just sugar around functional closures.

In fact, you can use hooks inside of React component subclasses with a little fiddling [1].

The fact that the official react doesn’t support it is basically a design decision. It’s not impossible, but they just want to draw a clear line in the sand about how they think React code should be written.
