Went to buy a useless adapter and got an even more useless adapter
I have another Pi, a Pi Zero W, that I use as a webcam. There's a camera module you can get for them, plus compatible lenses. I downloaded someone else's software build to make it work, so all I really did was physically assemble it.

You need several Pi Zeros but you can turn them into a USB cameras.

Android 2021 Predictions
Turns out Linux does have support for it - you can do it with a Raspberry Pi! So I feel like it isn't a ridiculous thing for Android to support.

There's this project [0] which turns a Raspberry Pi into a USB webcam. It works with the RPi IR camera.

Camera as a webcam
I'm using a Sony A7S with an Elgato CamLink 4k capture card, but it needs a workaround for proper support in Linux.

Camera for Streaming
The Elgato Cam Link 4k is a good solution, it works out of the box on modern Linux, no drivers needed. It does have some quirks with some software in when using 4k resolution (https://github.com/xkahn/camlink/issues/2#issuecomment-814083239), but in obs-studio it works fine.
