I tried a similar thing on my server when I just started, now I'm running Ubuntu server and most of my services runs in docker containers, portainer has a GUI that's makes it easy to manage the containers. So my advice just run a Ubuntu server without desktop environment and portainer novaspirit has a great tutorial for beginners

novaspirit tech originally created a docker container template to be hosted on arm boards, they now have moved to also include amd64 boards. template linked here

When you deploy a Docker in Portainer, the docker-compose already includes a port it will expose. You can also change the port in Portainer to avoid duplicity. Once it is exposed, you can point the subdomain you wish to the port you want with NPM. I’m following 70% of the flow novaspirit (Youtuber) has on his series pi-hosted. Recently set up Apache Guacamole on a RPi 4 on my home LAN (following the Pi-Hosted playlist), and have started exploring it.

I'm new to self-hosting, and I've stumbled upon Homer which seems like a good tool. However, it's real tedius to go through editing the config file VIM based constantly.

However, lately I've been driven to insanity trying to set up a homer dashboard without Docker, using nginx. I have pretty minimal experience with hosting in general so I'm not sure how much of my problem is from misunderstanding nginx vs. misunderstanding nixos.

Homer supports multiple pages (like tabs), so you could perhaps set up different pages/tabs for the separate interests.

Hi r/selfhosted! I was wondering if there was any sort of plugin for Homer that sets up a login screen. I've tried looking on GitHub but the terms "homer lock" and "homer login" doesn't warrant results for the plugin I am looking for.

Ohh you got a lot of options here. My personal favorite is Dashy, which is the most feature-rich of all and has powerful theming options. There's also Heimdall and Organizr, which seem to be popular with the community. Homer is another option. That's not a definitive list
