Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

A Whole Age of Warfare Sank with the Moskva
Please don't take HN threads on generic ideological tangents - they change more specific topics into more generic ones, which makes threads more repetitive and therefore less interesting. In the case of ideological topics, more generic also means more inflammatory, and we're trying to avoid bursting into flames here.

(In case anyone's worried, this point holds regardless of which ideology the tangent is about, and the above is just a procedural comment and not a statement either way about the underlying ideologies.)

Ask HN: Tips for Reducing the Number of Inboxes
On the contrary, genuine end-to-end encryption is only possible this way. First-party end-to-end encryption is broken by design. (I’ve explained somewhat more with particular examples in a few comments: https://hn.algolia.com/?query=chrismorgan+end-to-end+encrypt....)
To be sure, interoperability requires a suitable spec for other clients to implement, but there’s absolutely nothing special about end-to-end encryption in this picture—it’s just a feature to implement like any other.

Why You’ll Want to Use Skiff Mail Instead of Gmail
Never heard of skiff outside of shady web3 coin stuff. Is this for real?
Seems to be quite promoted lately: https://hn.algolia.com/?q=skiff

The Coming Food Catastrophe
To say 'Au contraire' you have to provide some sort of meaningful counter-argument. You have 'comedy' youtube videos, oddly overwrought bombast ('dictator', 'agenda') and something about a completely different phrase which, unlike 'Karen', is not intended as an insult.
Directing tropey slurs at people is mostly not ok on HN and it's been moderated like that for ages.

It's not super-complicated.

NY Attorney Launches Investigations into Social Media for Role in Buffalo Attack
Could you please stop creating accounts for every few comments you post? We ban accounts that do that. This is in the site guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.
You needn't use your real name, of course, but for HN to be a community, users need some identity for other users to relate to. Otherwise we may as well have no usernames and no community, and that would be a different kind of forum. https://hn.algolia.com/?sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=comme...

Judge: California’s women on boards law is unconstitutional
Please don't take HN threads on generic ideological tangents. They're tedious, extremely repetitive, and usually turn nasty. That's why the HN guidelines specifically ask people to avoid them.

Why Google is so unbearable (and how to fix it)
Address bar commands that substitute a given argument in a URL when a given search key is used.

For searching in Hacker news, I saved the URL 'https://hn.algolia.com/?query=%s' with the search key 'hn'. So when I want to search something around here, I just type
hn something
