p8modem - General-purpose WebSocket "modem" for PICO-8
p8modem is a way to interact with WebSocket servers by sending and receiving packets with a maximum size of 128 bytes each. It only works when your PICO-8 program is deployed as a web application, because JavaScript is used to read/write the PICO-8's GPIO memory and relay packets along the WebSocket connection. I solved the problem of getting access to GPIO memory on all platforms for Pinput a while back, to implement extended gamepad support. Adapting it to implement simulated shared memory or some kind of PICO-flavored network device shouldn't be too hard.

Extended gamepad support for PICO-8
Ever wish PICO-8 had dual analog stick support? Me too. Pinput is a Lua library and suite of external helper apps to provide XInput-like gamepad support to PICO-8, without requiring binary patching. The library and helper use the GPIO area of cartridge RAM to communicate, making Pinput a sort of virtual peripheral plugged into an imaginary expansion port.
