Blink virtual machine now supports running GUI programs
Well, there is a Wayland Compositor for macOS:
https://github.com/owl-compositor/owl
It still lacks a lot of features though (I think, I never tried it out)
-
X Window System Basics
> X runs on so many more platforms than Wayland [...] Python3 is strictly an improvement on every platform, I don't think they're analogous because there really is no good reason to keep Python2 around
X runs on more platforms than Wayland because...it was ported to them. Just like things use Python 3 because they were ported to it.
This is also understating the reach of X I think: it's widely used in the embedded world, is seeing increasing support in BSDs, and has even been used on macOS (https://github.com/owl-compositor/owl). People have even used it to embed an entire compositor inside a GTK app (https://github.com/alexlarsson/wakefield).
That isn't to say that libwayland has a lot of Linux-isms in it, but afaik they're not really structural as much as there is lack of interest to generalize things more. Heck, the protocol-oriented architecture would even make it easier for anything Linux-esque to be removed in favor of alternative protocols.

Yup, the Owl compositor implements Wayland on Quartz (the macOS graphics system).

Thanks! FYI there is a wayland compositor for macos too, so it would be nice to be able to use that with linux apps in a VM...

Steam Deck officially hits over 13,000 games Playable and Verified
>Another thing is that games don't go on suspend mode once you go to steam menus like other consoles do. The game is still running in the background (with audio and everything). In fact there is no game-suspend functionality at all, only having the device fully going to sleep actually pauses the game.
For people that like to tinker a bit, you can install Decky Loader and the "Pause Games" plugin that can suspend games, even automatically on focus loss.

Have you bought any game on Steam ONLY to play it only on the Steamdeck?
Get Decky Loader and install Pause Games. Turn on pause before focus loss and pause before suspend. That solved this problem for me.
- I assume I am not the only one getting these random occurrences of crackling and popping audio after waking the deck from sleep into an already open game? The crackling and popping also happens with any audio device I connect to the 3.5mm headphone jack. Nothing but restarting the game fixes it.
- Issues with SteamDeck UI and loading games after waking it up
- Really loving Decky Loader. What's your favourite plugins?

Deck got insomnia
I like to use Pause Games from the Decky Plugin Loader. It seems to solve most issues regarding unresponsiveness of the sleep button. I can't garentee if it works 100% for GTAV though

This is pretty much every game for me now.

How to manually install plugins via decky?
At first i tired loading https://beta.deckbrew.xyz/ from the test store option with in the decky settings but that never loaded. So I ended up finding the latest release on github and trying to install it via the manual url option. But even though it loads the url and gives me the option to install, it never shows up in decky loader.
