  • Filter Log size massive, question about blocking an ip
    1 project | /r/OPNsenseFirewall | 17 Feb 2022
Yes. I would do this with CrowdSec instead. It just came out in a beta version for OPNsense. It's unique in the way that it protects a number of services against, for instance, bruto force attacks by using collaborative threat intelligence; all users shares basic information about who's attacking them and have. Download it here. For now it protects ssh and https on OPNsense (and various 3rd party services).
  • Add support for CrowdSec, crowd-sourced fail2ban alternative

I am head of community at CrowdSec and as others already point out, there's already beta packages available here. Install it and tell about it on our Discord :-)
  • [New plugin] CrowdSec for OPNsense finally available in public beta
    2 projects | /r/OPNsenseFirewall | 24 Jan 2022
There's finally a port out for OPNsense. Get it here. By default it's able to protect ssh and web logins on OPNsense itself - but it's a full client so it can do much more if you want it. Or you can just install the bouncer port and have the agent running on a separate server if you have a more distributed environment. It's still in beta but it should work fine. If you have any problems, please ask in #-bsd on the CrowdSec Discord.
  • CrowdSec OPNsense port is ready for public beta testing!
    1 project | /r/CrowdSec | 24 Jan 2022
You can download it here. As I've said before, this is beta software. So if it blows up anything, you can't blame us :-) However, if you do run into trouble I suggest that you join our friendly Discord community (if you haven't already) and ask any questions regarding the port in #-bsd.

Before falling too much in love with Fail2Ban try taking a look at https://crowdsec.net. Similar functionality but way more advanced (but easier to configure). New project that leverages the power of the crowd and shares information of attacks among users so they help each other out protecting themselves.
